In the late summer, I always like going down to the farmer
markets, because that’s when the cherry tomatoes come out. September, to me, always seemed ripe and full
just ready to burst with the long days of summer becoming shorter. As a child I would watch fireflies in the
bushes on those late summer nights.
Raymond Luczak shares with us his ASL translation of "Fireflies”. Just beautiful and whimisical.
In addition to our usual lineup with deafREVIEW and DeafStreet Style, I have a feature piece posted about Ryan Commerson and Alison
Aubrecht, members of Facundo Element. It’s
often been said that art reflects life and vice versa, but beyond that, we all
do share ideas through art, either as an expression or simply as a medium to
communicate.
There were many wonderful activities this past month
sponsored by Deaf Spotlight, and there is quite a bit of news to share. Keep on your eyes out for daily submissions
and enjoy the last days before we rush into October.
Please remember to contact me if you are interested in
submitting something - we want the opportunity to showcase the talent out there
in the Pacific Northwest . Please email us with
the required information - your name, contact info, city/state, attachment of
your work with a title, and a website if you have one at
whatsup@deafspotlight.com. We will screen and select for the upcoming month's
online edition. The deadline is September 25th, if you wish to submit something
to the next edition.
See you next month,
Katie Roberts
